Southeastern Oklahoma State University Burroughs, Bonstrom Pace SE to Win at NWOSU

Damon Burroughs and Cory Bonstrom each had three hits to pace Southeastern to a series-opening victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State, 12-9, on Friday night in Alva, Okla.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 15-17 overall and 7-12 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Burroughs finished the game 3-of-6 with a double and four RBI.
 
Cory Bronstrom added three hits as well, finishing 3-for-4 with two walks while driving in one run.
 
Sam V=Creed chipped in a pair of hits, one of them a double, while Joseph Ramirez added two as well, with one of them a triple.
 
All nine hitters in the lineup had a hit in the contest as Reid Rice, Seth Morrow, Matt Miles, Cameron French, and Cameron Cromer each added one hit.
 
Morrow would drive in a pair of runs while Rice, Miles, French, and Bonstrom had an RBI each.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start and picked up the win after tossing 5.2 innings an allowing eight runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
 
Jordan Compton would come on in relief and pick up the save after allowing a run on a hit with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings pitched.
 
Creed and Bonstrom walked to open the game and Rice would bring home the first run on an RBI single, plating Creed for a 1-0 lead.
 
A batter later Burroughs would bring home Bonstrom and Rice with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
 
NWOSU would get on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer.
 
SE would extend its lead in the third with a Miles RBI single followed by an RBI single from Cromer to push the lead to 5-2.
 
That lead would disappear in the bottom of the third on a three-run homer by the Rangers that knotted the game at 5-5.
 
Burroughs would drive in a run in the top of the fourth to put SE back in front, and a batter later Morrow would drive in two runs on a single. A French single two batters after that would end the scoring in the inning with the Storm leading 9-5.
 
Burroughs would drive in another run in the fifth to push the lead to 10-5.
 
An inning later Ramirez would triple to right field and come home on an overthrow, extending the lead to 11-5 midway through the sixth.
 
NWOSU would add a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth to trim the SE edge to 11-8.
 
Creed would double to lead off the eighth and Bontrom would double him home to push the lead to 12-8 in the seventh.
 
The Rangers would tack on one more run in the bottom of the seventh but that was as close as the game would get as Southeastern held on for the 12-9 victory.
